Around the Majors: Epstein resigns

1) Red Sox GM Theo Epstein resigned when he was unable to agree to a new contract before it expired yesterday.

2) White Sox DH Frank Thomas exercised his $10 million player option to stay with the team. The team still needs to exercise their option for him to return at that price. They are reportedly expected to buy out his contract for $3.5 million and then work out a deal at a lower price.
