Around the Majors: New steroids policy

1) MLB and the union agreed to a new steroids policy: 50 games for a first suspension, 100 for a second and a lifetime ban for a third.

2) The Yankees re-signed LF Hideki Matsui to a 4 year, $52 million contract and exercised their $1.5 million option on P Tanyon Sturtze.

4) The Dodgers hired Ned Colletti as GM.

5) According to NY Newsday, the Yankees were turned off by Johnny Damon’s 7 year, $84 million asking price, so they are turning their attention towards Brian Giles.

6) According to the Philadelphia Daily News, when the Phillies meet today with Billy Wagner, it may represent their last chance to re-sign him, with him indicating that, if he gets a 4 year offer from the Mets, that could be too good for him to pass up.
