**–hit 2 yesterday
*–hit 1 yesterday

Correction from yesterday–The BlueJays sent Gabe Gross, not Greg, to the minors.

1) The Cubs will activate P Mark Prior from the DL today.

After starting his career with 3.32 ERA/9 RSAA and 2.43 ERA/42 RSAA seasons, Prior had a 4.02 ERA/7 RSAA in 21 starts. He has a 3.08 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.25, and 58 RSAA in 70 games.

A Hardball Times Update
Goodbye for now.

2) The Diamondbacks placed P Oscar Villarreal on the 15 day DL and called up P Lance Cormier.

Villarreal has a strained rotator cuff. He has a 3.34 ERA/18 RSAA in 105 career games, including a 7.00 ERA/-5 RSAA in 17 games in 2004.

Cormier has a 8.14 ERA/-19 RSAA in 17 career games.

3) Twins P Carlos Silva was examined by a couple of doctors. They concluded he has a torn meniscus in his right knee. The injury isn’t as serious as first thought and he might only have to miss 2-3 weeks.

4) The Cubs placed 2B Todd Walker on the 15 day DL and called up 2B Mike Fontenot.

Walker has a sprained knee ligament. He’s expected to be out 4-6 weeks, after it was originally believed to be a potential season ender.

5) Rockies minor league OF Jorge Piedra was suspended for 10 days for violating MLB’s steroid policy.

Piedra is subject to the major league policy since he’s on the 40 man roster.

6) Nationals 1B Wil Cordero had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.

He was originally believed to be out 6-8 weeks, but now the team thinks he could return in 3-4.

7) The Dodgers designated minor league P Frank Brooks for assignment.

If you enjoy the ATM reports and want to support them, check out my other creation–the sabermetric baseball encyclopedia. Orders are now being taken for the next edition, which will include the 2004 stats and is currently shipping. It’s powerful, yet extremely easy to use. Features extensive sorting, stat display options, and features that are not available in online and printed sources. The deluxe package has been greatly expanded, making it a much better bargain. For more information, see http://www.baseball-encyclopedia.com

According to Peter Gammons, “There is no greater baseball tool than Lee Sinins’ Baseball Sabermetric Encyclopedia. Get thee to Baseball Immortals and order the disc, haste post haste.” The product Jayson Stark called “the best invention since the toaster oven!” has gotten even more powerful.
