Around the Majors: Rangers-Marlins trade rumor update

1) The Rangers have reportedly agreed to include one of their top pitching prospects, either John Danks or Thomas Diamond, in their proposed trade with the Marlins. But, the Marlins also reportedly are talking to the Red Sox to see if they can top the Rangers offer.

2) According to NY Newsday, the Mets are more likely to acquire Marlins 2B Luis Castillo or C Paul Lo Duca than 1B Carlos Delgado, who could be headed to the Orioles.

3) Today’s birthdays–

“Lee Sinins’ Sabermetric Encyclopedia is best reason yet developed to own a computer. I think I must own a copy of every baseball encyclopedia there is or ever was, and occasionally I find that I still need to pull out one of the others, but not very often; the Sabermetric Encyclopedia covers 97% of my needs. Whether I’m working or playing, calculating or daydreaming, the Sabermetric Encyclopedia pops up to help out. I turn it on in the morning; I turn it off when the house is on fire. Otherwise, I’m using it.”–Bill James
