Around the Majors: Soriano loses his arbitration case

1) Nationals 2B? OF? Alfonso Soriano lost his arbitration case. He will make $10 million in 2006, instead of the $12 million he was seeking.

Soriano set a record for the highest arbitration salary, breaking the mark of $8.2 million set by Andruw Jones in 2001.

The Nationals want to move Soriano to the OF, but he is not interested in the move.

“Lee Sinins’ Sabermetric Encyclopedia is best reason yet developed to own a computer. I think I must own a copy of every baseball encyclopedia there is or ever was, and occasionally I find that I still need to pull out one of the others, but not very often; the Sabermetric Encyclopedia covers 97% of my needs. Whether I’m working or playing, calculating or daydreaming, the Sabermetric Encyclopedia pops up to help out. I turn it on in the morning; I turn it off when the house is on fire. Otherwise, I’m using it.”–Bill James
