Around the Majors: Sosa, Johnson rumors

1) Rumors of a Sammy Sosa to the Mets trade are heating up. Sosa says he’s willing to cut an $18 million from his contract in order to make a trade happen. According to the Chicago Tribune, Sosa has petitioned the union to agree to that, while the Newark Star Ledger reports they could be willing to do it. Unlike their opposition to Alex Rodriguez cutting the value of his contract during last offseason, this involves a mere option, as opposed to guaranteed money.

According to the NY Daily News, “A Major League Baseball official said the trade has a ‘better than 50-50 chance of happening.'”

2) According to the LA Times, the Angels, Marlins and Diamondbacks have discussed a 3 way trade that would send Randy Johnson to the Angels and Jose Guillen to the Marlins.

3) The BlueJays claimed P Seung Song off waivers from the Expos.

If you enjoy the ATM reports and want to support them, check out my other creation–the sabermetric baseball encyclopedia. Orders are now being taken for the next edition, which will include the 2004 stats and is currently shipping. It’s powerful, yet extremely easy to use. Features extensive sorting, stat display options, and features that are not available in online and printed sources. The deluxe package has been greatly expanded, making it a much better bargain. For more information, see http://www.baseball-encyclopedia.com

According to Peter Gammons, “There is no greater baseball tool than Lee Sinins’ Baseball Sabermetric Encyclopedia. Get thee to Baseball Immortals and order the disc, haste post haste.” The product Jayson Stark called “the best invention since the toaster oven!” has gotten even more powerful.
