Craig Counsell-ish utility man with good plate discipline, occasional gap power, and strong defense (he got Gold Glove consideration at third base last year despite making only 61 starts at the position). Descalso will have a chance to win the starting second base job this spring, but more likely he’ll time-share it with Tyler Greene and/or Skip Schumaker. Only 25 years old and should have a long career.

Descalso is the prototypical Cardinal prospect—-hits left, good line-drive bat, not much power, adequate defense, no star potential but could develop into a league-average player. Guys of this type haven’t received much opportunity in St. Louis lately.

He had a breakout year at Springfield and arrived at Triple-A about half a season ahead of schedule. He's 23 and has gap power and decent plate discipline.
