The Cards are trying to play it carefully with their prized prospect, who is still only two years removed from high-school ball. He’ll start at Double-A this year and likely will get at least 10 starts there, no matter the results. Assuming all goes well, he’ll finish the season at Triple-A and be in position to compete for a spot in the 2013 big-league rotation. The organization does not want him facing big-league hitters in 2012.
