Strike thrower. Beard grower. Home run server. All describe Mujica, who throws reasonably hard but whose refusal to work inside to hitters allows them to get a little too comfortable at the plate. As long as he works in a big ballpark and stays out of high leverage situations, he should soak up innings in middle relief.

Mujica came over from the Indians just before Opening Day and filled a variety of roles for the Padres. He throws reasonably hard, keeps the ball around the plate (the latter of which accounts for the many homers he allows), and is resilient. Mujica didn't excel in any of his roles in 2009 but did an acceptable job in all of them. His versatility should continue to provide value for the Padres going forward.
