Salas was lucky on balls in play (.230 BABIP), but his fundamental numbers were very sound. He’s not likely to get many (if any) more chances to close, but he may be around for a long time as a setup man.

Salas worked as a closer in the minors and posted gaudy strikeout rates. He was vulnerable against left-handed hitters in his major league debut but very good against right-handed batters; his minor-league splits were similar.
