I loved this article. I am that guy in our league. Sometimes I drop them before they make too much of an impact (Morneau, Youkilis) but also I get lucky and cash in (Braun 2 years ago) and of course the draft I will always be proud of from 2 years ago (in a keeper league) my pitching draft was (not in order) Lincicum, Gallardo, Billingsly & Garza. Cueto from last year (although not a lot of value last year) is paying off this year. 6 years ago I traded for a post-hype prospect who was still in middle relief to start the year and the rest is history (some guy named Johan, I forget his last name). Nice article. My keeper league has a rule you can only keep players that were drafted and roster the entire year. In other words, if a player wasn’t drafted (or was at any point dropped), he’s no longer keeper eligible. This forces people to draft younger and riskier players if they want keeper eligibility, and it also means that when a player comes out of nowhere and vastly exceeds expectations (a la Ryan Braun), he has to be tossed back into the draft next year. Sometimes this rule sucks…I just picked up Mat Gamel, and if he rakes this year, I’ll be sad that I can’t keep him for next year. But definitely makes draft strategy interesting…I drafted Jay Bruce at good value, and it looks like I might have an extremely good value next year if I keep him. Posted 05/14 at 09:54 AM | ||||
Nice. I don’t copy/paste many articles to peruse in more depth later, but this made the cut.
