Around the Majors: Angels place 3 on the DL

1) The Angels placed DH-RF Tim Salmon, 2B Adam Kennedy and P Matt Hensley on the 15 day DL.

Salmon, who is recovering from knee and shoulder surgeries, isn't expected to return until after the all star break. After 33 RCAA/.883 OPS and 25 RCAA/.838 OPS seasons, he had a .323 SLG, .306 OBA, .628 OPS, -9 RCAA in 60 games. Salmon has a .886 career OPS, compared to his league average of .771, and 324 RCAA in 1596 games.

Kennedy has a torn right ACL and is expected to miss the first 4-6 weeks of the season. After 14 RCAA/.795 OPS and 4 RCAA/.743 OPS seasons, he hit .406 SLG, .351 OBA, .757 OPS, -1 RCAA in 144 games. Kennedy has a .734 career OPS, compared to his league average of .772, and -34 RCAA in 757 games.

Hensley has shoulder weakness. He had a 4.88 ERA/-1 RSAA in his first 16 career games.

2) The Astros traded P Tim Redding and cash to the Padres for C Humberto Quintero.

After 5.40 ERA/-9 RSAA and 3.68 ERA/15 RSAA seasons, Redding had a 5.72 ERA/-15 RSAA in 17 starts (27 games). He has a 4.75 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.27, and -15 RSAA in 91 games.

Quintero has -7 RCAA/.621 OPS in 35 career games, including a .375 SLG, .295 OBA, .670 OPS, -5 RCAA in 23 games in 2004.

3) The Nationals placed P Tony Armas on the 15 day DL.

Armas has a groin pull. After 4.44 ERA/-5 RSAA and 2.61 ERA/9 RSAA (just 5 GS) seasons, Armas had a 4.88 ERA/-6 RSAA in 16 starts. He has a 4.21 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.33, and 17 RSAA in 102 games.

4) The Tigers named Jeremy Bonderman their Opening Day starter.

After starting his career with a 5.56 ERA/-23 RSAA, Bonderman had a 4.89 ERA/-9 RSAA in 32 starts (33 games). He has a 5.20 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.59, and -32 RSAA in 66 games.

5) The Rangers sent P John Wasdin to the minors.

6) The Orioles sent INFs Napoleon Calzado and Ed Rogers, OF Tim Raines Jr. and C Sal Fasano, Keith Reed and Keith McDonald to the minors.

7) The Diamondbacks sent OF-2B Scott Hairston and P Lance Cormier and Kevin Tolar to the minors.

8) The Redsox traded 1B Carlos Torres to Nationals as the player to be named later in a February 15 trade that sent INF Alejandro Machado to the Redsox.

9) The Tigers sent Ps Jason Grilli and John Ennis to the minors and released P Mike James.

10) The A's sent 1B Adam Johnson to the minors.

11) The Twins either released OF Armando Rios, at his request, or became a free agent when he refused their assignment to the minors.

12) The Pirates sent P Mike Johnston to the minors.

13) The Rockies sent 3B Greg Norton, Jeff Baker and Andy Tracy and INF Eddy Garabito to the minors and designated P Aaron Taylor for assignment.

14) The Brewers sent 1B Prince Fielder, 2B Rickie Weeks and OF Corey Hart to the minors.

15) The Padres sent Ps Randy Williams and Angel Tovar to the minors.

16) The Indians sent Ps Brian Tallet, Paul Shuey and Jason Bere to the minors.
