Around the Majors: Bonds has surgery

1) Barry Bonds had surgery on his right knee and it looks like he won't be ready for Opening Day.
After 161 RCAA/1.381 OPS and 115 RCAA/1.278 OPS seasons, Bonds hit .812 SLG, .609 OBA, 1.422 OPS, 152 RCAA in 147 games. He has a 1.053 career OPS, compared to his league average of .749, and 1496 RCAA in 2716 games.
2) The Cubs announced that neither Mark Prior nor Kerry Wood are going to be available for their season opening series.
Wood is suffering from shoulder discomfort and rotator cuff inflammation. After 3.66 ERA/8 RSAA and 3.20 ERA/24 RSAA seasons, he had a 3.72 ERA/13 RSAA in 22 starts. Wood has a 3.63 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.31, and 67 RSAA in 164 games.
Prior has elbow inflammation. After starting his career with 3.32 ERA/9 RSAA and 2.43 ERA/42 RSAA seasons, he had a 4.02 ERA/7 RSAA in 21 starts. Prior has a 3.08 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.25, and 58 RSAA in 70 games.
3) The BlueJays released P Billy Koch.
After 3.27 ERA/15 RSAA and 5.77 ERA/-8 RSAA seasons, Koch had a 4.41 ERA/1 RSAA in 47 games with the Whitesox and Marlins. He has a 3.89 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.63, and 40 RSAA in 379 games.
5) Cardinals LF Reggie Sanders had an appendectomy and his status for Opening Day is unknown.
After 6 RCAA/.779 OPS and 22 RCAA/.913 OPS seasons, Sanders hit .482 SLG, .315 OBA, .797 OPS, 4 RCAA in 135 games. He has a .832 career OPS, compared to his league average of .766, and 133 RCAA in 1572 games.
6) The Cardinals sent OFs Brandon Berger, Skip Schumaker, Raul Gonzalez and Reid Gorecki and Ps Jimmy Journell and Evan Rust to the minors.
7) The Mets released utilityman Joe McEwing.
After -15 RCAA/.538 OPS and -16 RCAA/.601 OPS seasons, McEwing had a .312 SLG, .297 OBA, .609 OPS, -7 RCAA in 75 games. He has a .671 career OPS, compared to his league average of .782, and -61 RCAA in 664 games.
8) According to NY Newsday, the Mets are interested in Astros P Tim Redding.
9) The Royals sent OF Brian Hunter to the minors.
Hunter, who didn't play in the majors in 2004, has -115 RCAA/.660 OPS in 1000 career games.
10) The Phillies sent C Carlos Ruiz and Ps Edwin Moreno, Eude Brito, Franklin Perez and Robinson Tejeda to the minors.
11) The Angels sent 2B Howie Kendrick, OFs Nick Gorneault, Tommy Murphy and Reggie Willits and Ps Joe Saunders, Eric Cyr, Corey Lee, Joe Saunders and Steven Shell to the minors.
12) The Royals named Jose Lima their Opening Day starter.
After 7.77 ERA/-27 RSAA and 4.91 ERA/2 RSAA seasons, Lima had a 4.07 ERA/1 RSAA in 24 starts (36 games) with the Dodgers. He has a 5.00 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.48, and -76 RSAA in 312 games.
Lima ranks 8th on the all time list for worst HR vs. the league average--
