Around the Majors: Dodgers signings

1) The Dodgers are about to re-sign free agent P Odalis Perez to a 3 year, $24 million contract and re-signed CF Milton Bradley to a 1 year, $2.5 million contract, to avoid salary arbitration.

After 3.00 ERA/18 RSAA and 4.52 ERA/-11 RSAA seasons, Perez had a 3.25 ERA/19 RSAA in 31 starts> He has a 4.00 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.29, and 3 RSAA in 145 games.

After -9 RCAA/.723 OPS and 34 RCAA/.923 OPS seasons, Bradley hit .424 SLG, .362 OBA, .786 OPS, 3 RCAA in 141 games. He has a .766 career OPS, compared to his league average of .772, and -4 RCAA in 459 games.

2) NY Newsday amended their article, from yesterday, in which I got the report about the Mets making an offer that exceeded Carlos Beltran's asking price. They replaced it with the team getting ready to make a 6 year, $100 million offer.

3) The Mariners signed free agent SS-2B Pokey Reese to a 1 year, $1.2 million contract, with an option for 2006.

After -11 RCAA/.681 OPS and -8 RCAA/.533 OPS seasons, Reese had a .303 SLG, .271 OBA, .574 OPS, -21 RCAA in 96 games with the Redsox. He has a .659 career OPS, compared to his league average of .780, and -126 RCAA in 856 games.

4) The Tigers signed free agent INF Ramon Martinez to a 1 year, $1.025 million contract.

After 3 RCAA/.749 OPS and -8 RCAA/.709 OPS seasons, Martinez had a .346 SLG, .313 OBA, .659 OPS, -15 RCAA in 102 games with the Cubs. He has a .717 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and -31 RCAA in 578 games.

5) Orioles P Sidney Ponson was released from jail and will have a hearing in front of a judge (which would our version of a trial) on assault charges on March 3.

6) Jack Sanford yesterday, at the age of 88.

Sanford had -11 RCAA/.541 OPS in 47 games as a 1B for the 1940-41 and 1946 Senators.

7) Rangers P Jeff Zimmerman's contract, which was signed on December 21, was voided by the commissioner's office.

Zimmerman was a free agent who wasn't offered salary arbitration by December 7. So, he became ineligible to re-sign with the Rangers until May 1. Just about every year, there's someone who isn't offered arbitration by the deadline, but is signed by their prior team anyway, after they get permission from the rest of the teams. But, that can't happen until spring training starts and then the player can't be added to the 25 man roster until May 1.

8) The Mariners released utilityman Jolbert Cabrera and are ready to sell him to a Japanese team, after he clears waivers.

After -12 RCAA/.382 OPS and 9 RCAA/.770 OPS seasons, Cabrera had a .384 SLG, .312 OBA, .696 OPS, -9 RCAA in 113 games. He has a .667 career OPS, compared to his league average of .772, and -48 RCAA in 561 games.
