Around the Majors: Marlins sign Delgado

1) The Marlins signed free agent 1B Carlos Delgado to a 4 year, $52 million contract, with an option for 2009.

After 49 RCAA/.955 OPS and 69 RCAA/1.019 OPS seasons, Delgado hit .535 SLG, .372 OBA, .907 OPS, 19 RCAA in 128 games. He's spent his entire career with the BlueJays and has a .949 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and 392 RCAA in 1423 games.

Delgado ranks 9th in AL history for RCAA by a 1B--

2) According to ESPN.com, the Mets are close to trading for Redsox 1B Doug Mientkiewicz.

3) The Dodgers signed P Scott Erickson to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.

Erickson has a 4.54 ERA/-11 RSAA in 361 career games, including a 6.67 ERA/-5 RSAA in 6 starts with the 2004 Mets and Rangers.

4) The Twins signed INF Andy Fox and Ps C.J. Nitkowski and Trey Hodges to minor league contracts, with invitations to spring training.

After -9 RCAA/.671 OPS and -9 RCAA/.528 OPS seasons, Fox had a .145 SLG, .107 OBA, .253 OPS, -9 RCAA in 46 games (56 PA) with the Expos and Rangers.

After pitching just 18 games in 2002-03, Nitkowski had a 5.73 ERA/-5 RSAA in 41 games with the Braves and Yankees. He has a 5.35 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.66, and -36 RSAA in 329 games.

Hodges has a 4.77 ERA/-6 RSAA in 56 career games.

5) The Rangers signed P Wilfredo Rodriguez to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.

Rodriguez had a 15.00 ERA/-3 RSAA in 2 games with the 2001 Astros.

6) The Devil Rays designated P John Webb for assignment.

Webb had a 7.00 ERA/-3 RSAA in his first 4 career games.
