Around the Majors: Melvin gets an extension

1) The Brewers gave GM Dave Melvin a 3 year contract extension, covering 2007-09.

2) Brian Giles's agent confirmed that the Yankees have contacted him.

Giles will become a free agent.

3) The Reds signed OF Dewayne Wise to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
