Around the Majors: Optionsby Lee SininsOctober 29, 2004 1) The Reds picked up their 2006 option on 1B Sean Casey. After -15 RCAA/.696 OPS and -2 RCAA/.758 OPS seasons, Casey hit .534 SLG, .381 OBA, .915 OPS, 40 RCAA in 146 games. He has a .839 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 89 RCAA in 944 games. 2) The Yankees declined their 2005 option on 1B Travis Lee and their 2006 option on P Paul Quantrill. After -2 RCAA/.725 OPS and 9 RCAA/.807 OPS seasons, Lee had -3 RCAA/.308 OPS in just 7 games. He has a .751 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and -26 RCAA in 856 games. After 2.70 ERA/9 RSAA and 1.75 ERA/19 RSAA seasons, Quantrill had a 4.72 ERA/-3 RSAA in 86 games. He has a 3.74 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.50, and 111 RSAA in 791 games. 3) The Rangers declined their 2005 options on OFs Brian Jordan and Rusty Greer. After 13 RCAA/.807 OPS and 7 RCAA/.791 OPS seasons, Jordan had a .363 SLG, .275 OBA, .638 OPS, -18 RCAA in 61 games. He has a .798 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and 45 RCAA in 1332 games. Greer has missed the last 2 1/2 seasons, due to an injured just about everything. 4) Rockies 3B Vinny Castilla declined his mutual option and he'll become a free agent. After -38 RCAA/.616 OPS and -9 RCAA/.771 OPS seasons, Castilla had a .535 SLG, .332 OBA, .867 OPS, -9 RCAA in 148 games. He has a Coors inflated .813 career OPS, compared to his league average of .771, and -159 RCAA in 1625 games. 5) The Cubs exercised their 2005 option on P Ryan Dempster. After 5.38 ERA/-28 RSAA and 6.54 ERA/-29 RSAA seasons, Dempster had a 3.92 ERA/1 RSAA in 23 games. He has a 4.99 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.39, and -79 RSAA in 184 games. 6) The Tigers declined their 2005 option on P Al Levine and re-signed P Jamie Walker to a 1 year, $900,000 contract, with an option for 2006, and re-signed Ps Craig Dingman and John Ennis to minor league contracts. After 4.24 ERA/0 RSAA and 2.79 ERA/15 RSAA seasons, Levine had a 4.58 ERA/-1 RSAA in 65 games. He has a 3.85 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.68, and 53 RSAA in 407 games. After 3.71 ERA/2 RSAA and 3.32 ERA/7 RSAA seasons, Walker had a 3.20 ERA/9 RSAA in 70 games. He has a 4.24 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.56, and 5 RSAA in 261 games. Dingman has a 7.74 ERA/-16 RSAA in 41 career games, including a 6.75 ERA/-7 RSAA in 24 games in 2004. Ennis has a 7.65 ERA/-7 RSAA in 13 career games, including a 8.44 ERA/-7 RSAA in 12 games in 2004. 7) The Redsox exercised their 2005 option on 3B Bill Mueller. After 0 RCAA/.743 OPS and 38 RCAA/.938 OPS seasons, Mueller hit .446 SLG, .365 OBA, .811 OPS, 5 RCAA in 110 games. He has a .798 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and 70 RCAA in 1034 games. 8) Marlins 3B Mike Lowell won't exercise his right to become a free agent if the team doesn't make a deal for a new stadium by Monday and in return, the team has guaranteed the remaining 3 years, $25.5 million on his existing contract. After 13 RCAA/.816 OPS and 22 RCAA/.881 OPS seasons, Lowell hit .505 SLG, .365 OBA, .870 OPS, 26 RCAA in 158 games. He has a .823 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 71 RCAA in 839 games.
