No Parity

by Matthew Carruth
October 02, 2007

Far from the gloating of the NFL (Patriots ahem) and NBA (Spurs ahem), MLB has always been unfairly derided for a lack of parity, mainly because of the freedom it places on budgets. That is, there being no salary cap, hard or soft, in baseball. Well guess what baseball defenders? We have another new piece of evidence is our righteous case the MLB is actually the true bearer of parity in professional sports.

2006 playoff teams: Athletics, Twins, Tigers, Yankees, Dodgers, Padres, Cardinals, Mets
2007 playoff teams: Angels, Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Cubs, Phillies

Only the Yankees return to the playoffs this year. Behold, parity.
