you forgot the dusty baker factor. He could easily screwup any and all progress that Bruce made last year with one bad remark. What a really horrible manager for any young kid to have.

Jay Bruce is already one of the best young corner outfielders in the game today, and would be very high on my list of guys who I would want on my team if I were starting from scratch.
He reminds me alot of a young Jim Thome. A big guy, who just hits the ball hard.
His batting average is a little on the low side true, but they’ve been plenty of guys with lower averages then him starting out who managed to turn it around after spending time in the cage.
I think it all comes down to how hard does Jay Bruce want to work. If he wants to be one of a .230 40 home run guy like Adam Dunn, he can do that. If he wants to be something more, he can do that as well.
Bruce has about as much talent as anyone. Just going on what I’ve heard about Bruce he wants more, which is great news for Reds fans, who haven’t had a winning club in quite some time now.
And if you want more good news, Homer Bailey’s ERA after being called back up in August was 3.35. So yes there is still plenty of hope with him.
The only thing Reds fans can hope for now is that ownership doesen’t decided to “rebulid” by trading away guys like Brandon Phillips.

To the comment about Dusty screwing up development. The Youngsters actually like Baker, although he should do a better job of protecting them in the lineup. He left Bruce exposed too much in the 6th and 7th hole this season.
