Strange Numbers Indeed

by Robert Dudek
May 13, 2004

I'll wager that no player has ever had a stretch of games with the following batting totals:

20 At-Bats
1 Hit (a double)
12 Walks
1 Strikeout
.406 OBP
.100 SLG

Those are Barry Bonds's numbers for May so far. After an unbelievable April, Bonds missed a few games with a sinus condition and has been cold (no pun intended) in the six games he's played since. Last night, Phillies pitchers retired Bonds in all 4 plate appearances. It was only the third time this season Bonds did not draw a walk and the first time he didn't reach base via walk or hit at least once.
