"I want him as a starter and so does everyone else, including him, and that is what we are working toward and we need him there now," Steinbrenner told the New York Times. "There is no question about it, you don’t have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy. You just don’t do that. You have to be an idiot to do that." Steinbrenner didn't get his way when it came to Johan Santana. It remains to be seen whether things will turn out any differently now. The supposed plan is for Chamberlain to go into the rotation around midseason, but many think he'll simply be left in the pen all year. Chase Utley went 3-for-4 with his seven and eighth homers to drive in four of the Phillies' five runs Sunday in a win over the Mets. Utley's solo homer in the first and three-run blast in the fifth accounted for all of the scoring early, but the Mets came up with four runs in the sixth. The Phillies went back ahead on Pedro Feliz's solo shot in the seventh and held on to win 5-4 when the Mets failed to convert after getting the first two men on in the ninth against Brad Lidge. Utley's big game allowed him to overtake Derrek Lee for the major league lead with eight homers. He's gone deep in four straight. Alex Rodriguez said he'll have a better idea on Monday whether he'll miss any time with a strained right quad. The Yankees have tomorrow off. "I’ll get some rest, wake up and see how it feels," he said. "I’ll treat it all day. I have a heat pad, sleep on that, then ice it, and do treatment all day and let it roll." Fantasy leaguers have little choice but to keep A-Rod active and hope for the best. Manager Bobby Cox called Chipper Jones (quad) questionable to play Monday against the Nationals. Cox said the injury is "nothing that’s going to have him out any length at all." Martin Prado will play if Jones cannot tomorrow. Scott Rolen (finger) went 0-for-3 as the designated hitter Sunday in his first game at Single-A Dunedin. Manager John Gibbons said Tuesday that Rolen was still at least two weeks away, but now it's possible he'll return as soon as Wednesday. He's scheduled to play in two more games for Dunedin before being reevaluated. If the finger doesn't react as well as hoped to both fielding and hitting, then Rolen's return could be delayed. The Jays are already saying that he won't be brought back as a designated hitter. Phillies placed shotstop Jimmy Rollins on the 15-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain. This comes after he came off the bench Saturday, so he'll have to miss the full 15 days. Eric Bruntlett will keep filling in at shortstop, so he's worth using in NL-only leagues. It's the first DL stint of Rollins' career. Astros placed LHP Wandy Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin. "It’s disappointing," Rodriguez said through an interpreter. "But it’s better this way. I don’t want to make it worse." Jack Cassel will be called up Thursday to start in his place. Until then, the Astros will have Tim Byrdak available as an extra reliever. Royals designated RHP Hideo Nomo for assignment. It would have been a nice story if Nomo could have made a successful comeback as a reliever, but the fastball wasn't there and the Royals should have known it after watching him this spring. He had an 18.69 ERA in 4 1/3 innings.
