Manny Acta told ESPNDeportes on Sunday night that he's been fired as Nationals manager.
It was destined to happen at some point. "I thank the Nationals for giving me this opportunity and I'm sorry that things didn't work out as expected. It's normal for the manager to pay the price when the team is not doing well," Acta said. Jim Riggelman is likely to replace him at the helm.

Sources told NBC10's John Clark that free agent Pedro Martinez may arrive in Philadelphia Monday to meet with Phillies officials.
No further details were provided and Clark has left himself out, so we'll see where this one goes.

Diamondbacks released first baseman Tony Clark.
Not a surprise. Clark may have a few homers left in his bat yet, but there wasn't any reason for the Diamondbacks to keep using him. They'll probably call up Josh Whitesell and add him to the mix at first base. Clark, who was 4-for-16 with a homer and two doubles as a pinch-hitter, would make sense in Colorado if Garrett Atkins is traded.

Josh Beckett turned in his fourth career shutout to earn his 100th victory Sunday against the Royals.
Two of those shutouts have come in his last five starts. He's gone without allowing an earned run in six of his last 10 starts. Beckett is now tied with Red Sox teammate and fellow All-Star Tim Wakefield for the AL lead with 11 victories.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
