Bartolo Colon was activated and will start on Sunday. As Rich Lederer says, that's a head-scratcher. Durham Bulls shortstop B.J. Upton, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 amateur draft, was charged Friday with drunken driving. Upton was released on a written promise to appear in court, the report said. In his last minor league rehab start, Roger Clemens pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Triple-A Round Rock Express, with three runs allowed, five strikeouts, five hits and three walks. Of his 91 total pitches, 57 went for strikes. He'll start for the Astros next Thursday against Minnesota, presumably against the Twins' young stud, Francisco Liriano. At this time, the Cubs haven't announced whether Mark Prior will start for them this Sunday, or make another rehab start in the minors. The Boston Red Sox put pitcher Matt Clement on the 15-day disabled list. Clement (5-5) was experiencing pain in his right shoulder and biceps when he was pulled out in the fifth inning of his last start. Outfielder Gabe Kapler was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace Clement. The Braves placed right-hander John Thomson on the 15-day disabled list Friday after he left his last start with a blister. Kyle Farnsworth left Friday's game at Washington in the eighth inning an apparent back injury. Albert Pujols says that he may return from his injury, a strained side muscle, much sooner than the Cardinals originally predicted. Yankees LHP Randy Johnson appealed his five-game suspension for throwing at an opposing batter. The Red Sox claimed right-handed pitcher Kyle Snyder off waivers from Royals on Friday. Cubs catcher Michael Barrett gave his side of the story during a hearing Friday regarding his appeal of a 10-game suspension issued by Major League Baseball for punching White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski after a collision at home plate. Travis Hafner, Cleveland's DH for 63 games, started at first. Kevin Millwood improved to 6-1 with a 1.93 ERA in nine career starts against Arizona. Jonathan Papelbon's ERA is now 0.27 in 34 innings. Joe Mauer is now batting .381. THT's StatsThere are typically five pitchers in a starting rotation and nine players in a lineup. The result is that starting pitchers pitch more often than batters bat, as you can see in this list of the top twenty major league pitchers in batters faced (and pitches thrown). For comparison, the batter with the most plate appearances, Texas’s Michael Young, has 321 plate appearances.Last First Team BFP Pit Hernandez Livan WAS 442 1,620 Webb Brandon ARI 440 1,523 Hudson Tim ATL 424 1,511 Zambrano Carlos CHN 421 1,684 Capuano Chris MIL 416 1,512 Jennings Jason COL 407 1,494 Buehrle Mark CHA 405 1,433 Willis Dontrelle FLA 405 1,515 Lopez Rodrigo BAL 404 1,478 Zito Barry OAK 403 1,599 Mussina Mike NYA 403 1,528 Pettitte Andy HOU 403 1,543 Haren Danny OAK 398 1,494 Cook Aaron COL 398 1,348 Davis Doug MIL 396 1,530 Millwood Kevin TEX 394 1,439 Wakefield Tim BOS 394 1,440 Arroyo Bronson CIN 392 1,530 Marquis Jason STL 391 1,368 Smoltz John ATL 391 1,434Access all of THT’s stats here…
