Blue Jays placed RHP Shaun Marcum on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 19, with soreness in his right elbow.
Marcum had felt discomfort in his throwing arm for a few weeks and finally decided he needed some extra rest. "This is a blow to the rotation—that's for sure," Blue Jays pitching coach Brad Arnsberg said. "He's throwing the ball as well as anybody on the entire staff. But, bumps in the road come, and hopefully we just get good news." John Parrish, who is 10-0 with a 2.83 ERA at Triple-A Syracuse, is the likely replacement in the rotation.

Albert Pujols (calf) will join the Cardinals in Detroit for some supervised workouts next week.
If everything looks fine, Pujols will return when he's eligible on Thursday. "I think he's feeling really good," manager Tony La Russa said.

Cubs placed RHP Carlos Zambrano on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 19, with a mild strain in his right shoulder.
It's the second career DL stint for Zambrano. Sean Marshall is expected to be called up to replace him Tuesday and will probably make a second start in his place next weekend.

The Marlins plan to activate Josh Willingham from the disabled list on Tuesday.
Willingham will be eased back into the lineup. 'I'm not going to run him out there the first seven days in a row,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said. He has been on the DL since April 28 with lower back pain.

Chipper Jones said he expects to be sidelined through the weekend after aggravating his strained right quad.
"It's happened so many times I can't recall," Jones said. "This is definitely the worst, though." Omar Infante will start at either third or short on Saturday, depending on whether Yunel Escobar plays.

Erik Bedard was taken out of Friday's game against the Braves with back spasms.
Bedard threw three scoreless innings being unable to continue. With the trade talk already heating up, one wonders if he's really willing to give it his all for the Mariners at this point.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
