Phillies signed Brad Lidge to a three-year, $37.5 million contract extension.
The contract runs through 2011, and includes a club option for 2012. Lidge is making $6.35 million this year and has never been better. He has a 0.77 ERA with 47 strikeouts over 35 innings, including 19 saves.

Jose Guillen, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Saturday night, had a heated clubhouse exchange with Royals' pitching coach Bob McClure prior to the game against the Rays.
The issue started when an agitated Guillen yelled, "Coaches don't need to be all up in our ... business." McClure, sitting close by, then said, "Jose, if you're talking about me, then you need to shut ... up." That obviously didn't go over well with Guillen and the two started an expletive-laced argument and had to be separated. No punches were thrown, but a few chairs got tossed around.

Elijah Dukes will miss at least 4-6 weeks after being diagnosed with a meniscus tear and a partial tear of the patella tendon.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer person. The Nationals are expected to bring back Kory Casto from Triple-A. Manager Manny Acta also said that he'll probably go back to Wily Mo Pena in left field.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Brewers have been hesitant to part with a second top prospect for C.C. Sabathia and the chances of a deal could be on the decline.
Olney's report seems to based mostly on guesswork -- he doesn't know what's on the table in trade talks with the Brewers or any other teams -- and though he says the Brewers restructured their offer on Saturday, he offers no details on what that entailed. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Friday that the Brewers were offering Matt LaPorta, Taylor Green and a lesser prospect for Sabathia. Olney hints that the Indians would want a superior second talent (Alcides Escobar makes the most sense), but that the Brewers aren't biting. As well they shouldn't when they have a better prospect on the table in LaPorta than anyone else is going to offer. Olney says the Dodgers, Phillies and Rays are lessor suitors for Sabathia and that the Brewers have started drawing up potential alternate plans.

Pirates optioned LHP Tom Gorzelanny to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Now that Gorzelanny is being sent down, perhaps he'll go ahead and admit that he's been pitching hurt. It's certainly seemed that way throughout a season in which he's posted a 6.57 ERA and walked 61 batters in 87 2/3 innings. John Van Benschoten will join the rotation and start Wednesday in what could amount to a last shot for him.

The New York Post is reporting that Cliff Lee will start the All-Star Game for the AL squad.
Someone isn't going to be invited to the TBS Christmas party. The Post is revealing the names of the All-Star starters the day before they were set to be announced tomorrow. According to George King, the AL starters are C Joe Mauer, 1B Kevin Youkilis, 2B Dustin Pedroia, 3B Alex Rodriguez, SS Derek Jeter, OF Manny Ramirez, OF Josh Hamilton, OF Ichiro Suzuki and DH David Ortiz. Milton Bradley is expected to be the replacement for Ortiz in the lineup. The Post also says the plan is for Mariano Rivera to pitch the last inning of the game.

The New York Post has learned that Brandon Webb will start the All-Star Game for the NL.
Voted in as starters were C Geovany Soto, 1B Lance Berkman, 2B Chase Utley, 3B Chipper Jones, SS Hanley Ramirez, OF Alfonso Soriano, OF Kosuke Fukudome and OF Ken Griffey Jr. Webb is something of a surprising choice to start given his recent struggles, but he's still as deserving of the honor as anyone. Also likely considered were Edinson Volquez, Ben Sheets and Tim Lincecum.

Rockies placed shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand laceration.
The Rockies have to be extremely upset with Tulo, who injured himself during an act of frustration on Friday. Still, there's not much that can be done about it, other than hoping he's learned his lesson. With Tulowitzki out, the Rockies will go to Clint Barmes at shortstop and Jeff Baker at second, opening up first base for Joe Koshansky. Koshansky now looks like a worthy short-term pickup in NL-only leagues.

Roy Oswalt is still in pain and will have his hip examined by Astros team doctors Saturday in Houston.
Oswalt, who had to be skipped Saturday for the same reason, will not be able to make his next scheduled start Tuesday in Pittsburgh. Brandon Backe will get the nod instead. "He tried to put more into his throws and it didn't work," manager Cecil Cooper said. "They'll check him out again and whatever the doctor recommends is what we'll do." It sounds like Roy is headed to the disabled list.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
