According to the North County Times, the Padres have reacquired infielder-outfielder Chris Burke from the Mariners.
Burke is expected to be in a San Diego uniform on Tuesday when the club begins a series with the Giants. Burke was hitting .237 in 38 at-bats with the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate. The Padres decided to make the move after losing Everth Cabrera to a broken hand. It's not yet clear who, or what, they gave up.

Marlins placed LHP Andrew Miller on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.
The injury has evidently been bothering Miller for a few weeks now, and it wasn't getting any better while he tried to pitch through it. Burke Badenhop will be called up to replace him and should be available out of the pen immediately. He'll be the favorite to start in Miller's place this weekend, but it will depend on how he's needed in relief.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Monday that Jed Lowrie likely will undergo surgery on his wrist.
The news wasn't all bad, though. One possible surgery likely would have ended his season, but the procedure he's expected to undergo now could allow him to return by the All-Star break. Julio Lugo, who should return next week, will be the starting shortstop until then. Nick Green is filling in right now.

Julio Lugo (knee) is scheduled to join Triple-A Pawtucket for a rehab assignment Tuesday.
Lugo said he feels about "80 percent" right now. A few games at Pawtucket and he might begin feeling completely healthy. He's been out all year, rehabbing from offseason knee surgery. With Jed Lowrie out of the picture, the shortstop position is all Lugo's once he's ready to reclaim it.

Joe Mauer (back) is expected to participate in a simulated game Monday.
Mauer is thought to be less than two weeks from returning to the Twins. The club wants him to get around 50 at-bats in the minors before he steps back into the bigs. That could be accomplished in 11 or 12 games if everything runs smoothly.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
