THT Daily: Around the league

by Bryan Tsao
February 07, 2008

Fire Michael Scott? - The guys at Fire Joe Morgan came out yesterday and revealed their identities, and it turns out that Ken Tremendous is a writer and producer for The Office.

Bedard trade still grounded - Not much in this piece other than that.

Dodgers projected roster - It's almost spring again, which means it's time to look at teams' rosters going into the season. The Dodgers could be NL pennant contenders, and Jon Weisman breaks down what their team looks like so far.

Aybar charges dropped - Willy Aybar's wife has dropped domestic violence charges she filed against him earlier this week. On another, less serious note, the Rays have a spokesperson named "Rick Vaughn"?

Vulture some saves - Brandon Lyon has been named Arizona's closer.

Billy Butler - What does John Sickels see in his crystal ball for the talented Royal?

Obligatory steroids link - Brian McNamee claims to have syringes that might contain DNA evidence implicated Clemens took steroids. Now personally, I believe that Clemens took steroids and/or HGH, but this is pretty weak. Even if there is Clemens' DNA on the syringes, legally, this probably doesn't mean much because of the (lack of a) chain of custody, and in the court of public opinion—well, is there still anyone who doesn't think Clemens used steroids?

Rangers name Ryan president - The Texas Rangers named Nolan Ryan their club president yesterday. Apparently, having successfully managed a couple minor league teams, this is a legit appointment. Always interesting to see which baseball players could have been successful outside of professional sports.

Tiger, Tiger, burning bright - Bless You Boys canvases some of the AL Central previews out already, and likes what it finds.

Edit: Off-topic spoiler alert!
[R] - And lastly, a little off-topic (okay, mostly off-topic), but the US national team drew 2-2 with Mexico in a (soccer) friendly last night in Houston. It was an exciting game in the tradition of the rivalry, and the US managed a result even while being outplayed for long stretches of the game. Soccer is a great sport, and I even got a friendly "Go Mexico!" shout from a Mexico supporter as I wore my US jersey around campus yesterday.
Spoiler ends
