THT Daily: Bastardo winsby Dave StudemanJune 03, 2009 Major League News for June 3Player News Yesterday’s Results Today’s Games Standings Top Minor League Performances You can always find the most recent THT Daily at http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/content/thtdaily/ Player NewsPlayer Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldTroy Tulowitzki was removed from Tuesday night's game with a bruised left hand. X-rays were negative, but Tulo is expected to miss at least two starts. "I'm not sure when I did it, but on that second at-bat, I could barely hold the bat," he said. "I wanted to stay in there, but it was swelling up too much." Omar Quintanilla will fill in. Indians manager Eric Wedge confirmed Tuesday night that Asdrubal Cabrera indeed dislocated his shoulder. "He's a potential DL," added Wedge, "I think he knocked it out of there, but we don't think it's too extreme. Still, there is a reaction to that." Cabrera will undergo several tests Wednesday before the Indians make any sort of decisions. Milton Bradley will undergo an MRI on his right calf Wednesday. Bradley appeared to suffer a calf strain in the fourth inning Tuesday night. The Cubs are calling him "day-to-day," but the MRI results should tell the whole story. Tom Glavine believes he's ready to return to the major leagues. Glavine tossed six scoreless innings in a rehab game Tuesday night. "I don't know what else I can do," he said. "Physically I felt good and I feel like I'm ready. "I'd love to get to Atlanta and help the team. I'll go [to Turner Field] tomorrow and prepare to pitch on Sunday, wherever that is." The decision is now management's. Evan Longoria will undergo an MRI Wednesday on his injured left hamstring. Longoria doesn't believe the injury is serious, but the Rays are obviously going to take every precaution. "I didn't feel a pop, I didn't feel a pull, and I was able to walk," he said. "Hopefully it's just a day-to-day thing." The results should be available Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Antonio Bastardo won his major league debut against the Padres on Tuesday with six innings of one-run ball. The Phillies won the game handily 10-5. Bastardo's job was made easier with a 4-0 lead before even throwing a pitch, but he showed great poise, holding the Padres to just four hits against one walk and five strikeouts. The only run scored on an Adrian Gonzalez solo home run in the sixth inning. And that's nothing to be ashamed of. All in all, an impressive showing for the 23-year-old southpaw. He'll be worth watching against the Dodgers, a more formidable opponent, in his next start. Adrian Gonzalez slugged his major league-leading 22nd home run in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday. The Phillies didn't throw much to him, as he walked three times on the night, but he got a hold of one in the sixth with the game well in hand. Despite the 22 bombs, Gonzalez has just 43 RBI. An indictment of an otherwise awful offense. Ichiro Suzuki extended his hitting streak to a new franchise-record 26 games with a first inning single. 13 of the 26 games have been multi-hit games. Ichiro was 2-for-5 on the night with two runs scored and his ninth stolen base. Vin Mazzaro won his major league debut against the White Sox on Tuesday, hurling 6 1/3 scoreless innings. A notable debut for Mazzaro, as the 22-year-old allowed only three hits. Even more impressive, he gave up just one hit after the first inning. He lived a bit dangerously, walking four while relying on 12 flyball outs. He also only struck out one batter, so he'll have to improve on that in order to be successful. To his credit, with this kind of performance, he'll get a chance to stick around.
