THT Daily: Blowouts in the ALby Matthew CarruthAugust 26, 2007 Major League News for August 26Player News Yesterday’s Results Today’s Games Standings Top Minor League Performances Stats You can always find the most recent THT Daily at http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/content/thtdaily/ Player NewsPlayer news items are provided by RotoworldOut since August 5, Alfonso Soriano (quadriceps) said it was possible he could play in Tuesday's series opener against the Brewers. "Basically, he looks good," manager Lou Piniella said. "Originally we thought around the first of September, Labor Day weekend. So he's a bit ahead of schedule. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he's in the lineup on Tuesday." Monitor his health over the next day - it sounds like he'll be a good play for week 22. It was a strained left hamstring, not his preexisting ankle condition, that caused Joe Mauer to leave Saturday's game. That's a whole lot worse. It didn't seem to be a severe strain, but his status for next week is in question now. Expect an update on Sunday. Mike Redmond was already set to start in his place tomorrow. Scott Kazmir broke the franchise record with 13 strikeouts as Tampa Bay rolled over Oakland 14-3 on Saturday. He eclipsed the Ray mark of 12 Ks, set by James Shields and former starter Dan Wheeler, back in his first incarnation with Tampa Bay in 1999. Kazmir, now 10-8, gave up just five hits and three runs in eight innings while he lowered his ERA to 3.64. A promising sign was that Kazmir walked none and took only 105 pitches to get through eight, usually just a six-inning total for him. He struck out the side in the first on 12 pitches and recorded his first six outs via the K. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
