X-rays on Matt Cain's arm showed no break after he was hit by a comebacker during Saturday's game.
He's day-to-day with a bruise. The Giants probably won't want him pitching in the All-Star Game even though the injury doesn't figure to cost him any additional time, but we'll know for sure on Sunday.

Reds right-fielder Jay Bruce left Saturday's game in the first inning after fracturing his right (non-throwing) wrist.
Bruce made a diving play and saw his hand bent back. He will return to Cincinnati for tests on his wrist, and it is not known how much time he will miss. It was Bruce's first time in the lineup in three days after being benched for being hitless in his last 14 at-bats. He was batting .207 on the year with a team-high 18 home runs and 41 RBI. Chris Dickerson and Jonny Gomes figure to benefit the most from the injury. Gomes stands to gain the most playing time, but the Reds could recall Drew Stubbs to throw into the mix as well.

Cubs placed catcher Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with a mild left oblique strain.
Although he was placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 7, manager Lou Pinella said that he could miss up to a month. Koyie Hill will continue to be the Cubs' primary catcher with Jake Fox backing him up. Keep in mind that Fox has only caught two games this season -- both in the minors. They'll likely look for another backup during the break.

Alan Embree, who was hit by a comebacker during Friday's game, has a fractured tibia and will undergo season-ending surgery on Saturday.
The disappointing news is sure to cause the Rockies to intensify their search for bullpen help. Embree had a 5.86 ERA in 36 appearances, but he had been pitching better lately. Randy Flores figures to replace him in the pen.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
