Putz will not immediately be placed on the disabled list after being diagnosed with a hyperextended right elbow. The Mariners said the hyperextension caused "triceps tendon inflammation" and an "irritated ulnar nerve," but that there was no structural damage. Putz will be reexamined on Monday, so he's out for the weekend at least. Brandon Morrow will close in his place. Victor Martinez will undergo surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow and could miss 6-8 weeks. If Martinez wasn't a catcher, then there's a good chance he'd make it back in three or four weeks. However, the Indians can't have him throwing at 75 percent after he returns and there probably isn't enough benefit to having him return as a designated hitter, not when Travis Hafner should be healthy by then. The loss of Martinez for up to two months only increases the chances that the Indians will be sellers at the deadline. Teams are already likely salivating at the prospect of adding C.C. Sabathia. Jake Peavy pitched three-hit ball over six innings in his return from the DL and combined with three relievers on a shutout of the Dodgers. There wasn't much to be afraid of in the Dodger lineup with Matt Kemp serving a suspension and Jeff Kent getting the day off. Peavy was able to cruise right from the start and threw just 72 pitches, 52 of them strikes. He struck out four and walked none in his fifth victory of the season. According to the Dallas Morning News, Milton Bradley attempted to confront Royals television announcer Ryan Lefebvre in the press box following Wednesday's game due to what he believed were unfair comments made on the air. As the Rangers' designated hitter, Bradley was able to watch the broadcast when he wasn't batting and took offense to a comparison Lefebrve made between him and Josh Hamilton. Manager Ron Washington and general manager Jon Daniels stopped Bradley before he got to Lefebvre, at which point Bradley returned to the clubhouse in tears. "All I want to do is play baseball and make a better life for my kid than I had, that's it," Bradley said. "I love all you guys. I'm strong, but I'm not that strong."
