X-rays on Matt Capps' elbow revealed no fracture, but there's still no word on how much time he'll miss.
Capps was hit by a Geovany Soto liner while trying to close out Monday's game. If he needs to go on the DL, then John Grabow and Jesse Chavez would be the favorite for saves.

David Price lasted only 3 1/3 innings in his 2009 major-league debut on Monday night, allowing two runs on four hits.
Too many long counts. The only runs Price allowed came on a two-run homer by Ryan Garko, but it took the right-hander 100 pitches to get 10 outs, and he was pulled after issuing back-to-back walks with one out in the fourth inning. In total, he issued five free passes while striking out six and surrendering four hits. Obviously, he'll want to get his control in check for his next start against Minnesota.

Kenji Johjima left Monday's game with a broken toe.
He will likely be placed on the disabled list shortly. He was replaced in the lineup by Rob Johnson. There is no word yet on how long Johjima will be lost for. Should it be for longer than a few weeks, the Mariners may look for help elsewhere as Johnson's bat is just not good enough for consistent big league work - see his .197 batting average this season and his .129 average last year for proof.

Joe Mauer homered as a pinch-hitter Monday in a loss to the Red Sox.
This guy. Mauer is on an absolutely incredible roll and it's a pleasure just to be along for the ride. He's now batting .444 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI in just 81 at-bats. We're really running out of adjectives here.

Justin Verlander dominated the Royals with seven shutout innings Monday in a 13-1 Tigers victory.
Verlander struck out eight batters and now leads all major leaguers in that category with 85. He didn't issue a single walk and allowed just one extra-base hit. He's 5-2 with a 3.55 ERA and has looked like his former self recently. Let's hope he'll keep it up next week when he faces the Orioles.

Chris Carpenter hurled eight shutout innings but was left with a no-decision Monday against the Brewers.
He's back, he's back, he is back. Carpenter was in fine form, carrying a perfect game into the seventh inning before an odd defensive alignment squandered his shot at history. Nonetheless, he allowed just two total hits and struck out 10 without walking a single batter. Carp hasn't surrendered an earned run in 23 innings this season. He'll try to keep it rolling against the Giants next time out.

Alex Rodriguez finished 5-for-5 with four RBI as the Yankees routed the Rangers 11-1 on Monday afternoon.
The five hits matched a career high for Rodriguez, but he wasn't the only one hitting. The Yankees tallied 19 total base knocks, and not one left the park. A-Rod's batting average shot up from .189 to .259, and he's now sitting on 17 RBI in 58 at-bats.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
