THT Daily: Dodgers Lose Anotherby Matthew CarruthAugust 15, 2007 Major League News for August 15Today’s LinksPlayer News Yesterday’s Results Today’s Games Standings Top Minor League Performances You can always find the most recent THT Daily at http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/content/thtdaily/ THT LinksSmall Sample Size - Will Leitch responds to the conclusion of a study that MLB umpires are racist, favoring calls to players of their own race. X-Factor (subscription required) - Kosuke Fukudome is having surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow. He may miss the rest of this season in Japan but will be ready in time for the start of MLB play next season. Time for a Checkup - John Sickels gives his opinion on the progress and performance so far of Tim Lincecum, a man who never should have fallen as far as he did in the draft. 300 - Can Erik Bedard reach that magical plateau of 300 strikeouts this season? He's going to be close either way but David Pinto thinks its an exceedingly small probability that Bedard actually passes the threshold. Jose, Why? - Jose Offerman, former MLB all-star currently playing in the Atlantic independent league for the Long Island Ducks, took a bat with him out to the mound to face pitcher Matt Beech who had hit him in the thigh with a pitch. Do Something, Anything - Dodger fans, watching thier playoff hopes melt away rapidly, would love for GM Ned Colletti to do something to try and improve the team or at least shake it up. If you have happened upon a story that we have overlooked or wish to give feedback of any sort, please notify us at . Player NewsPlayer Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldDodgers placed third baseman Nomar Garciaparra on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf. Nomar had hit .289/.338/.430 since moving over to third base, which is better than Shea Hillenbrand figures to do, and Hillenbrand is likely to even worse defensively than Nomar was. The Dodgers have to hope Andy LaRoche gets healthy soon so that he can take over at third base. In the meantime, Hillenbrand could have a little fantasy value. The Yankees pulled left-hander Kei Igawa back off waivers after no deal could be struck with the Padres prior to Tuesday's deadline. The Yankees weren't ready to give up on Igawa for nothing, and while the Padres may have been willing to part with a reliever to get him, there was no way they were going to sneak any quality arms through waivers. Maybe the two sides will take again this winter.
