THT Daily: Generic pitcher signs!

by Bryan Tsao
January 17, 2008

The king stays the king - Major League owners extended commissioner Bud Selig's contract through 2012. Not surprising, given the record attendance and revenues he's presided over recently.

Minor league stadium shenanigans - JC Bradbury breaks down the new Gwinnett County stadium deal for the Braves' Triple-A franchise. County taxpayers should probably take note.

Ode to Mark - This piece about Mark Ellis by Ken Arneson over at Catfish Stew basically sums up how I feel about the criminally underrated pivot.

Rangers sign Jennings - Texas signed former Rockies and Astros starter Jason Jennings to a one-year, $4 million deal.

Cubs sign Lieber - It must be spring now, as the annual run on rotation filler appears to have begun, with the Cubs getting Jon Lieber on a one-year, $3.5 million deal.

Marlins sign Hendrickson - The hit parade continues with the Florida Marlins snapping up Mark Hendrickson for $1.5 million.

Tigers extend Robertson - Perhaps inspired by the transaction news trickling in, the Tigers extended starter Nate Robertson to the tune of three years, $21.25 million.

Clutch bets - Phil Birnbaum, inspired by Tom Tango's new project examining clutchiness, is putting his money where is blog is.

Red Sox move into travel industry - A Red Sox affiliate is selling $5,000 VIP packages to their opening series against the A's in Tokyo that include tickets on a chartered 747, luxury accommodations in the team hotel and other sightseeing opportunities.
