Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldHanley Ramirez, who left Saturday's game with shoulder soreness, said that he expects to play in Sunday afternoon's game.
Phew. Ramirez said he first felt the pain trying to throw out Nomar Garciaparra on a slow grounder, but after a night of icing the injury he thinks he'll be able to finish off the series at short.
Takashi Saito left Saturday night's game with tightness in his right elbow.
Saito struck out the first two batters he faced, but then appeared to feel discomfort in his right arm, shaking it while throwing fastballs to the next hitter. The 38-year-old was taken out of the game, and the elbow pain is clearly not a good sign. Jonathan Broxton should be grabbed in all leagues until we find out more.
Pedro Martinez was pulled after just four innings on Saturday because of stiffness in his right shoulder.
Martinez lasted 66 pitches against the Rockies. He had walked three batters, but allowed just one hit and tallied three strikeouts. The Mets are calling it a precautionary move, but we shall see.
In his debut as a Cub, Rich Harden pitched five-plus shutout innings and struck out ten but was left with a no-decision.
It was an impressive debut to say the least. He let up five hits and walked three, but those 10 strikeouts are his second-highest total this season. His fastball was clocked at 98 mph and he looked to have solid control over his whole arsenal of pitches the entire game. Chad Gaudin also made his Cubs debut, retiring both batters he faced. Sean Marshall wound up with the win after tossing two perfect innings at the back end of the game.
The Tigers won't use Edgar Renteria at all before the All-Star break.
Renteria suffered a mild hamstring injury running to first base on Wednesday and hasn't shown much improvement over the last few days. "We're going to wait with him," manager Jim Leyland said. "He's not ready."
Ryan Howard homered for the third straight game and the Phillies beat the Diamondbacks 6-5 in the 12th inning on Friday.
Shane Victorino finished the game 3-for-6 with two RBI and Jayson Werth drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning. Howard finished 2-for-5 with a solo shot and two runs scored. The homer was his 28th of the season and he has now knocked four home runs in the past three days. Maybe he's angry about not being named to the NL All-Star team, or possibly he's gearing up for a big second half. Either way, he's making fantasy owners very happy.

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
