Johnson has been sidelined since August 17 with a strained right hamstring, but has looked healthy this week in a handful of rehab games at the Single-A level and should pick up right where he left off. The first baseman was 12-for-39 (.307) with his new club before the injury. According to MLB.com's Jason Beck, the Tigers will skip Jarrod Washburn's next turn through the starting rotation. Armando Galarraga will start in his place Saturday against the Rays. Washburn, 35, is 1-2 with a 6.81 ERA since joining the Tigers at the trade deadline. He brought over a 2.64 from Seattle and has seen it rise quickly to 3.55. On top of the struggles, he has a sore left knee. Huston Street was held out of Wednesday's save opportunity with biceps tendinitis and likely will miss the rest of the week. Street will take a couple of days off and play toss this weekend. If all goes well, he could resume getting into games after that. Franklin Morales picked up the save in his place tonight. Rafael Betancourt would likely be the choice in a ninth inning in which several righties were due up. Mariano Rivera missed Wednesday's game with a slight groin strain. He is considered day-to-day. Rivera has compiled 38 saves, a 1.78 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 61/9 K/BB ratio this season. C.C. Sabathia notched his AL-leading 16th win on Wednesday night, limiting the Orioles to one run over seven innings. Sabathia has now won six straight decisions. He scattered seven hits against one walk and nine strikeouts, with the only run scoring on a first-inning sacrifice fly by Nick Markakis. No surprise here, Sabathia has logged at least seven innings in eight of his last 10 starts. The big man leads the majors with 199 1/3 innings pitched. Brad Penny blanked the Phillies over eight innings in his Giants' debut on Wednesday night. Everything the Giants were hoping for and then some, Penny limited the first-place Phillies to just five hits while fanning two and walking one. He looked like a new man on the mound, topping out at 97 MPH on his fastball. It's easy to say that this is what happens when a pitcher moves to the National League, but Penny was facing one of the National League's toughest lineups in one of the most homer-happy ballparks. He's definitely worth a flier in NL-only leagues. Josh Hamilton left Wednesday's game with lower back pain after the fourth inning. He incurred the injury by diving in to second base head-first on a double in the fourth. He finished the inning -- scoring on a single by Nelson Cruz -- but did not come out for defense in the fifth. Hamilton will be re-evaluated on Thursday and is day-to-day. Grady Sizemore and the Indians are discussing elbow surgery that could end his season. "We haven't decided anything yet," Sizemore said. "Right now, we're playing it day by day. We're talking about it, but that's all we've done is throw [the idea] out there." If Sizemore wants to hold off, he will definitely have the surgery immediately following the end of the season. He has been playing with an inflamed left elbow since spring training. Adam Jones is expected to miss 2-3 weeks and possibly longer due to his sprained left ankle. "Jones is going to be out indefinitely," manager Dave Trembley said. "I couldn't tell you when or if he'll come back." Hot-hitting Felix Pie will continue to man center field in Jones' absence.
