THT Daily: Meltdownby Matthew CarruthAugust 29, 2007 Major League News for August 29LinksPlayer News Yesterday’s Results Today’s Games Standings Top Minor League Performances Stats You can always find the most recent THT Daily at http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/content/thtdaily/ LinksBlue Jay Bats - Dave Till over at Batter's Box compares the Blue Jays hitters to their past performances trying to find something out about the dismal Toronto offense. Data Dump - Aaron Gleeman throws down a huge amount of notes on the Twins, ranging from the VORP of Torii Hunter to Kevin Slowey's IL league Pitcher of the Year Award. Criminally Incompetent - Derek Zumsteg takes a brief sojourn away from the Mariners doing their best to choke away a position they probably never deserved in the first place to place some of the blame on the management that has underused Adam Jones this season. A Just Move - Nate Silver discusses his thoughts on why former Astros GM Tim Purpura did deserve his release. The Long and Winding Road - How many times has Joey Devine been called up and sent down this season? It's a lot and here's a funny distraction to help you remember the number. Player NewsPlayer news items are provided by RotoworldThe Yankees have decided to pull Mike Mussina from the rotation and go with Ian Kennedy against Tampa Bay on Saturday. Mussina would probably bounce back given enough time, but the Yankees need to win now, and even if Mussina does rebound, he wouldn't be a great option come playoff time. Trying Kennedy is a good idea. The Yankees already know what they have in Jeff Karstens if Kennedy doesn't work out. Manny Ramirez was removed from Tuesday's game with muscle spasms in his lower back. Ramirez homered and singled before leaving the game in the seventh. He could be ready to hit on Wednesday, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be in the lineup for the game against the Yankees. Bobby Kielty replaced him tonight and could start in his place tomorrow. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
