Roy Oswalt left Saturday's game because of a strained left oblique.
While we take issue with a lot of the things the Astros do, we sure do appreciate the extremely quick injury updates. Oswalt is no stranger to oblique problems. Hopefully this is one the minor ones that won't result in a disabled list stint. The Astros are calling him day-to-day. If they are forced to put him on the DL, they could call up top prospect Troy Patton to replace him in the rotation.

Micah Owings went 4-for-5 with two homers and six RBI to lead the Diamondbacks to a 12-6 win in Atlanta on Saturday.
He pitched OK, too, earning his first win since June 20. Owings allowed just three hits over three innings, though all were solo homers. Chipper Jones, Jeff Francoeur and Andruw Jones took him deep. Still, Owings created more runs than he let in. The former Tulane star is now batting .279 with three homers and 11 RBI in 44 at-bats. He's a legitimate option as a pinch-hitter on days he's not pitching.

Barry Bonds hit homer No. 760 Saturday to lead the Giants to a 4-3 defeat of the Marlins.
With Florida's largest crowd in 2 1/2 seasons looking on, Bonds had a two-run shot off Rick VandenHurk in the fifth to account for the game's final runs. He struck out in each of his other three at-bats, reaching that total for the first time all year.

White Sox signed outfielder Jermaine Dye to a two-year, $22 million extension with a mutual option for 2010.
It's less than the White Sox thought they'd have to spend to keep him at the beginning of the year, but he'll still be getting a healthy raise over his previous deal. Dye will receive $9.5 million in 2008 and $11.5 million in 2009. The mutual option is worth $12 million and includes a $1 million buyout. The 33-year-old Dye was a legitimate MVP candidate in 2006, but he could finish this year with a sub-800 OPS for the fourth time in six years. Also, he's hit substantially worse with runners on and RISP both this year and in his career. That they're only guaranteeing him two years makes this a fair signing for the White Sox, but he probably won't ever again have a season like his 2006.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
