Victor Martinez will undergo an MRI after leaving Wednesday's game with right elbow inflammation.
"Victor got hurt on a swing in the first inning," manager Eric Wedge said. "He winced when it happened. It's something that's been bothering him on and off all year. It must have been one of those swings that bit him a little more than usual." Kelly Shoppach will fill in while Martinez rests.

Carlos Beltran hit a walk-off two-run homer to lead the Mets over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.
Beltran also had a two-run single, giving him four RBI on the night. The Mets ultimately had reason to celebrate, but there was a strange moment in the bottom of the ninth, when New York had the tying run on second with two outs, and not one Met was even feigning enthusiasm during Brian Schneider's at-bat. The win ends a five-game losing streak, and leaves the Mets 6.5 games behind the Phillies.

The Marlins will designate Jacque Jones for assignment and call up Robert Andino, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Unfortunately for Jones, his arrival in Florida coincided with the best stretch of Cody Ross' career. He was given just 37 at-bats and hit .104 with no extra-base hits and an 8/6 K/BB ratio. The Sun-Sentinel's Mike Berardino takes this to mean that Cameron Maybin will be up at some point during the next couple of weeks. However, there's nothing to suggest that Maybin would have any luck hitting for average in the majors and there's absolutely no reason for the Marlins to bring up another outfielder until Ross cools off.

Alfonso Soriano is expected to miss at least six weeks after suffering a broken bone in his left hand on Wednesday night.
Soriano was hit in the hand by a pitch, breaking a bone just under the ring finger on his left hand. He'll need to be in a splint for three weeks, at which point doctors will have a better idea about when he can return. The Cubs will call up Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa to take Soriano's roster spot, and Mark DeRosa will also see time in left field with Mike Fontenot filling in at second.

Dan Uggla hit a walk-off grand slam to lead the Marlins over the Phillies on Wednesday night.
A single would have gotten the job done, but Uggla wanted to show Chase Utley that he wasn't the only second baseman in the National League. He now has nineteen homers, although 12 of those blasts came in the month of May. Uggla and the Marlins will attempt to sweep Utley and the Phils on Thursday.

After an MRI on Wednesday, Ryan Zimmerman was told that he's another 4-6 weeks away from returning.
And that's the best-case scenario. According to Reds doctor Timothy Kremchek, there is a 70-percent chance the rehab program will heal the shoulder to the point where no surgery is required. If he's not feeling better by the All-Star break, he'll then likely undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season. Aaron Boone, Ronnie Belliard and Kory Casto will all see time at third base.

Moises Alou will undergo an MRI on his left calf after failing to make it nine innings in Tuesday's game.
The Mets made it sound as though he didn't aggravate anything before leaving after the rain delay last night, but he either did something then or he was never in any condition to return in the first place. The Mets desperately need to go get themslves a major league outfielder.

Albert Pujols is going on the disabled list after being diagnosed with a strained left calf.
The Cardinals fear he'll miss at least three weeks. Chris Duncan is coming up from Triple-A to take over as the first baseman against right-handers. Versus lefties, the Cards can use Joe Mather there instead of in the outfield or move Troy Glaus over and use Brendan Ryan at third base.

Mariners manager John McLaren said it was a sore elbow that caused J.J. Putz to leave Wednesday's game.
McLaren seemed to indicate that it was more of a day-to-day problem than something that will put him on the DL, but we're skeptical. Brandon Morrow is expected to close while Putz is out.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
