If Glaus needs surgery to remove a bone spur, he'd likely miss at least a month. That's something the Jays would like to avoid given their lack of depth at third base. They could call up John Hattig and have him share time with Jason Smith and John McDonald if Glaus goes on the DL. Orioles placed RHP Jaret Wright on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 11, with right shoulder soreness. Congratulations to those that had April 12 in the pool. Jeremy Guthrie is the top candidate to start in place of Wright on Sunday, assuming he isn't needed in relief on Friday or Saturday. If Guthrie won't be available, the Orioles could reach down to the minors for an alternative. Mark Prior had to leave his extended spring start after two innings Thursday because of shoulder soreness and is scheduled to see Dr. Lewis Yocum. It figures. Prior seemed to making progress during the second half of the spring, but it was clear he wasn't completely right after the Cubs decided not to send him to Triple-A to begin the year. It might already be time to write him off for 2007. Padres placed catcher Josh Bard on the 15-day disabled list with a groin strain. He was injured during Wednesday's game. Rob Bowen will get most of the starts behind the plate while Bard is sidelined, and Khalil Greene and Kevin Kouzmanoff figure to move up in the order. Pete Laforest was recalled to serve as a backup. Manager Buddy Bell indicated Wednesday that Joakim Soria will likely take over as the Royals' closer until Octavio Dotel returns from the disabled list. "They don’t take good swings off of him," Bell said. "For me, that’s the determining factor of whether a guy has the stuff (to close) or not. It’s not so much 95 or 98. It’s what kind of swings are guys taking?" Despite being a Rule 5 pick, Soria should be owned in all leagues and will have value for the rest of this month if Dotel's timetable gets pushed back again. Access THT’s stats here…
