Manager Ozzie Guillen said Friday that he expects Joe Crede to miss the rest of the season.
Crede was forced to leave Tuesday's game after his back injury flared up. "I don't expect him to be back anytime soon," Guillen said. "Joe is not going to be with us, and I don't expect him to be back [this] season." Juan Uribe should continue to fill in nicely.

Brandon Morrow lost a no-hitter with two outs in the eighth, but still beat the Yankees in his first major league start Friday.
As neat as it would have been for Morrow to become the second pitcher ever to throw a no-no in his first start, it was pretty clearly for the best that it was broken up. Ideally, it would have happened about 10 pitches earlier. He didn't throw more than 82 pitches in any of his minor league starts, and he ended up at 106 tonight. With Hideki Matsui on first after a walk, pinch-hitter Wilson Betemit ended the bid when he got a curve a bit up in the zone and drove in over Ichiro Suzuki's head in right. It scored the run, and Morrow was immediately removed with a 3-1 lead. Justin Thomas finished the eighth, and J.J. Putz tossed a scoreless ninth to close it out. Morrow, who struck out eight, should be worth using in all formats through the end of the year.

Josh Beckett pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven Friday against the Rangers.
55-60 pitches, eh? Beckett was throwing so well tonight that the Red Sox let him stay in to throw 80 and pick up his 12th win. He allowed four hits, all of which were singles, and walked none. His velocity was plenty good, but that was the case even when he was getting shelled by the Jays in his final start before landing on the DL. What was more important was that he seemed to have his good command tonight.

Carlos Quentin has a fractured right wrist and will undergo surgery Monday to insert a screw, the White Sox announced..
This seems nearly certain to cost him the rest of the regular season. Perhaps he'll make it back in October, but it's nothing the White Sox can count on. They'll go with Nick Swisher and Ken Griffey Jr. as their regular outfielders for the rest of the season. Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens will step in when someone needs a day off.

Orioles exercised manager Dave Trembley's option for 2009 and added an option for 2010.
The Orioles are 103-129 since Trembley took over for Sam Perlozzo in June 2007. Still, he's done a reasonable job with the pieces he's been handed. As frustrating as it's been to see Jay Payton get penciled in against right-handers, we suppose that's still better than seeing Brandon Fahey and David Newhan patrol left field, a rather frequent occurance during the Perlozzo era. He's done nice work with a bullpen absent any big names. The rotation is a different matter, but it's hard to assign blame there.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
