According to Baseball America, the Padres have promoted top hitting prospect Kyle Blanks from Triple-A Portland.
Blanks, 22, was hitting .283/.393/.485 with nine doubles, 12 home runs and 38 RBI for Portland. The 6’6″, 285 lb. slugger can play left field or first base. San Diego isn’t calling him up to sit on the bench, so there’s a strong chance he’ll gather some amount fantasy value. A corresponding move should be announced shortly.

According to the L.A. Times, Manny Ramirez is scheduled to join Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday for the beginning of a rehab assignment.
As the Times reports, “Ramirez will then go to Class A Inland Empire for a three-game series starting June 27. Following that stint, he’ll work out in Los Angeles on July 1, travel with the Dodgers to San Diego on July 2 and rejoin the lineup on July 3 against the Padres.” He’s been out on a 50-game suspension since May 7.

Craig Stammen blanked the Yankees for 6 1/3 innings as the Nationals pulled off a shutout at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.
The Nats won 3-0 in the first game at new Yankee Stadium to end without a homer. There were 119 hit in the 34 games going into today. The Nationals scored exactly three runs in all three games of the series against the Yankees, yet still won two out of three. The victory was the first for Stammen, who entered 0-2 with a 5.86 ERA in five starts. He still looks like a weak play in NL-only leagues.

Jim Leyland has benched Magglio Ordonez indefinitely.
Leyland wants to get Ordonez “away from it.” The manager is clearly frustrated with the slugger’s play this season, and we can’t blame him. He’s has just two home runs and owns a pedestrian .273/.347/.343 line. We can’t imagine the benching will be too long, but it may last for more than just a game or two. Stay tuned. Ryan Raburn will likely take his spot in right.

Tigers placed LHP Dontrelle Willis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 15, with an anxiety disorder.
Willis was 1-4 with a 7.49 ERA. He walked eight and gave up six earned runs against the Pirates on Sunday. Tigers manager Jim Leyland announced on Tuesday that Willis would not make his next scheduled start.

Cardinals activated infielder Khalil Greene from the 15-day disabled list.
Greene will be available to play third base in Thursday evening’s game. Greene batted .200/.287/.295 prior to being shelved with anxiety issues.

Nick Blackburn tossed a complete game and allowed only one run in a 5-1 victory over the Pirates on Thursday.
Blackburn improved to 6-2 with a 3.09 ERA. He pitched to contact, walking only one and striking out two. Blackburn allowed six hits. He was one out away from a shutout but gave up an RBI single to Adam LaRoche. It was the first complete game of Blackburn’s career. If you’ve been sleeping on the right-hander, wake up. He should be starting in all formats. Blackburn has been stellar since since his last loss on May 5. He draws the Brewers in Milwaukee next week.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called “sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each “up” bar is a victory and a “down” bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. “PWins” is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
