THT Daily: Now with home runsby Dave StudemanMay 29, 2008 Major League News for May 29Player NewsYesterday’s Results Today’s Games Standings Game of the Day Yesterday’s Home Runs Top Minor League Performances You can always find the most recent THT Daily at http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/content/thtdaily/ Player NewsPlayer Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldFrank Thomas could go on the disabled list with the strained quad tendon he suffered Tuesday. An MRI exam Wednesday that showed a strain and inflammation in the area just above his knee where it connects to the quadriceps muscle. "The MRI looks pretty bad," Thomas said. "When you’re messing with a tendon that big with my age, it could rupture and that would take a long time. We’ve got plenty of time right now. They want to rest it and get the swelling out. It doesn’t bother me hitting but after last night I couldn’t push off." If Thomas goes on the DL, Travis Buck will likely be called up. Pedro Martinez (hamstring) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings Wednesday in his rehab start for Single-A St. Lucie. Martinez fanned six and walked none while throwing 82 pitches. The strong performance should guarantee that he'll return Tuesday against the Giants. "I am really excited," Martinez said. "I would love to be there. I know the team really needs a little bit of a pat on the back, and I hope my presence will make a difference for them." Yankees placed RHP Ian Kennedy on the 15-day disabled list with bursitis and a strained right lat. The Yankees are strongly considering starting Joba Chamberlain in Kennedy's spot next Tuesday, Kennedy could be ready to return in about three weeks, but he'll likely spend considerable time in the minors before he gets another shot. Troy Percival left the clubhouse immediately after Wednesday's game to get an MRI on his injured hamstring. Percival fell on the mound after throwing his second second strikeout in the ninth inning on Wednesday. He tried to throw a warm-up pitch afterward, but shook his head and headed for the clubhouse. He had tightness in him hamstring last week, and we'll continue to update as we know more. Dan Wheeler appears to be the favorite for saves, but Al Reyes could also be used. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Each homer is also categorized into one of three types: Just Enough (JE) for homers that cleared the fence by ten feet or less, Plenty (PL) for those that were sure home runs but not “blasts,” and No Doubt (ND) for true “blasts”—homers that cleared the fence by at least 20 feet and landed at least 50 feet beyond the fence.Hitter Team Pitcher Team True Stnd. # Type Alfredo Amezaga FLA Duaner Sanchez NYM 361 370 1 JE Yuniesky Betancourt SEA Tim Wakefield BOS 392 389 3 PL Luis Castillo NYM Scott Olsen FLA 366 352 2 JE/L Endy Chavez NYM Kevin Gregg FLA 377 382 1 PL Ray Durham SF Doug Davis ARI 376 364 2 JE Jermaine Dye CWS Jake Westbrook CLE 390 417 9 PL Jesus Flores WAS Shawn Estes SD 394 406 2 PL Jason Giambi NYY Jeremy Guthrie BAL 449 451 11 ND Scott Hairston SD Brian Sanches WAS 380 386 7 PL Maicer Izturis LAA Armando Galarraga DET 390 377 1 PL/L Geoff Jenkins PHI Greg Reynolds COL 359 355 4 PL Lastings Milledge WAS Mike Adams SD 393 404 3 PL Craig Monroe MIN Joel Peralta KC 377 369 5 JE Melvin Mora BAL Andy Pettitte NYY 374 383 7 JE Justin Morneau MIN Joel Peralta KC 385 390 9 JE Jhonny Peralta CLE Gavin Floyd CWS 386 407 11 JE Mike Rabelo FLA Oliver Perez NYM 417 400 2 ND Jose Reyes NYM Scott Olsen FLA 379 378 7 PL Mark Reynolds ARI Vinnie Chulk SF 402 388 9 PL Cody Ross FLA Oliver Perez NYM 385 380 10 PL Cody Ross FLA Oliver Perez NYM 401 401 9 PL David Ross CIN Tom Gorzelanny PIT 400 397 1 PL Marcus Thames DET Joe Saunders LAA 390 375 5 PL Marcus Thames DET Joe Saunders LAA 416 405 4 JE Chase Utley PHI Greg Reynolds COL 409 405 17 ND Ty Wigginton HOU Adam Wainwright STL 388 406 2 PL Top Minor League GamesThe following list, provided by First Inning, includes the top minor league batting (based on Runs Created) and pitching (based on Game Score) performances from yesterday, with a focus on each team’s top prospects.ORG LVL PLAYER AB H 2B 3B HR BB SO Notes SD AA Chad Huffman...... 4 3 1 0 1 1 0 4 RBI TEX A+ Julio Borbon...... 5 2 1 0 1 1 0 3 R ARI AAA Emilio Bonifacio.. 5 4 0 1 0 1 0 COL AA Justin Nelson..... 4 3 1 0 1 0 0 PIT A+ Jamie Romak....... 5 3 1 0 1 0 1 TOR A+ J.
