THT Daily: Quentin Hits His 6thby Matthew CarruthAugust 26, 2008 Major League News for August 26Player News Yesterday’s Results Today’s Games Standings Top Minor League Performances You can always find the most recent THT Daily at http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/content/thtdaily/ Player NewsPlayer Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldTwins designated third baseman Mike Lamb for assignment. The Twins could have let Adam Everett go or sent down Randy Ruiz to make room for Eddie Guardado, but they instead have chosed to drop another one of their offseason busts. Lamb could follow Livan Hernandez and Craig Monroe out the door, but he is almost certain to clear waivers -- he's still owed $3.8 million through the end of 2009 -- and if he accepts his minor league assignment, he could always be brought back in September. Lamb was actually producing in very limited opportunities of late. He was 9-for-27 with five extra-base hits and six RBI since the break. Overall, he was hitting .233/.276/.322 in 236 at-bats. Mets placed RHP John Maine on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 24, with a bone spur in his right shoulder. Surgery would take care of Maine's problem, but it'd also end his season. He might be done even if he tries to rehab and put surgery off to the winter. Maybe he could try coming back as a reliever next month, but the shoulder is going to be a problem until he has the procedure. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
