Angels placed outfielder Garret Anderson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 28, with a tear in his right hip flexor tendon. The Angels didn't provide a timetable for his return. An MRI on Friday revealed the tear, and the possibility exists that he'll miss all of May. Reggie Willits will keep on filling in for Anderson. That's not much of a downgrade, but it's still bad news, as it means Willits can't replace Shea Hillenbrand.

Adam Loewen was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left elbow and is likely to miss four months. The Orioles will treat the stress fracture with total rest for two months. After that, it will probably take him at least two months to reemerge as a candidate for the rotation. Both Jeremy Guthrie and Brian Burres figure to be added to the rotation with Loewen joining Jaret Wright on the DL. Garrett Olson could be a candidate for a spot by June or July, but the Orioles are hurting right now.

Marlins optioned RHP Anibal Sanchez to Triple-A Albuquerque. That seems a little extreme, especially since Sanchez had a lower ERA (4.80) than either Dontrelle Willis (5.35) or Scott Olsen (5.63). Still, even though Sanchez hadn't given up more than four runs in any starts, he was nowhere near recapturing 2006 form. Ideally, he'd be right back up after three starts in the minors. We're guessing that Wes Obermueller will replace him in the rotation.

Phillies placed RHP Tom Gordon on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 2, with inflammation in his right rotator cuff. It's still a favorable diagnosis for Gordon, who could be back as soon as his 15 days are up. That doesn't mean he'll return to the closer's role after being activated. Brett Myers could secure the role in his absence.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.

Game of the Day
It was a slugfest in New York, where the Mariners pounded Kei Igawa and friends for 14 runs in the first five innings to beat the Yankees, 15-11. It was the most runs Seattle has scored in over two years. Raul Ibanez had four hits and the bottom three batters went 8 for 15 with 9 RBI’s.
