THT Daily: Spring?

by Bryan Tsao
January 29, 2008

Santana saga near end? - ESPN reports that the Twins will decide on what to do with Johan Santana soon, "perhaps [even] today."

Bedard talks stall - Despite what I posted yesterday, no deal has been reached between the Mariners and Orioles as of yet. Rumor has it that Orioles owner Peter Angelos has yet to approve the deal. RotoAuthority thinks that a deal would make George Sherrill the new closer in Baltimore.

Brian Bannister is a stat nerd - Apparently I've been remiss in not linking this
series of interviews that MLB Trade Rumors has been conducting with Brian Bannister. In the latest installment, Bannister gives us a great, succinct definition of DIPS theory and explains how he tries to apply it to his pitching.

Component park factors - MGL brings us his component park factors.

Phillies sign Feliz - Philadelphia signed former Giants third baseman Pedro Feliz to a two-year, $8.5 million deal.

Escobar analysis - Mike Fast over at Statistically Speaking gives us a comprehensive break down of Kelvim Escobar using Pitch f/x data.

Joba rules - Reports out of the Yankees camp state that they plan to start Joba Chamberlain in the rotation, but he could see time in the pen to keep his innings down.

Colorful contract clauses - Biz of Baseball reports on some of the interesting clauses players have gotten into their contracts lately. My favorite is Roy Oswalt's bulldozer for winning Game Six of the 2005 NLCS.

Adios Mike Lieberthal - A Citizen's Blog recaps a solid 14-year career.

Collaborative effort - Baseball Musings reports that On Baseball and Reds has created a Google spreadsheet of the Reds' payroll commitments over the next few years. It's a cool idea, and I wonder if opening it up to a group of bloggers/fans would make it easier to update while preserving it as a semi-authoritative source.

League average shortstop - Beyond the Box Score puts shortstop performance into perspective for us. Find out where your guy ranks.

Hillary Clinton, baseball waffler - Deadspin brings us a Youtube video that investigates the history of Hillary's baseball fandom.

Red Sox acquire Aardsma - In a fringe move, the Red Sox got reliever and former first round pick David Aardsma from the White Sox for a couple low level prospects.
