Cue Annual All-Star Hatred - That time of the year again folks. Yes, as we near June we can finally start gathering out hatred for which players are going to get snubbed at All-Star selection time and which declining veterans are going to voted in based on popularity. Can we all just agree that All-Star means nothing and move on? And I don't mean just ignoring the whole snubbed issue, I mean never mentioning a players lack or amount of All-Star appearences as an indication of quality again. It would be a step in the right direction.

HD is a Wonderful Thing - There is a new show on the MOJO channel (formerly InHD) called ironically, The Show, which follows the lives of six players on the Diamondbacks AAA team trying to make the big leagues. In a world where more people vote for the next American Idol than for President, actual documentary/reality shows deserve our viewership. And it's about baseball!

Moving On - So much for a rousing title defense. It seems unlikely, even to Viva El Birdos, that the Cardinals will be making any noise this season. So what to do now? I would start by seeing if there is anyway to get out from Scott Rolen's contract.

Justin Duchscherer (hip) has suffered a setback and will not be activated from the disabled list Wednesday.Instead, Duchscherer will be examined by a hip specialist after reportedly feeling pain during a one-inning appearance Monday at Single-A. "We have an idea what's wrong with it, but it's finding the best way to fix it," Duchscherer said. "It's frustrating. This is my job, and I can't do it."

According to the Los Angeles Times, Bartolo Colon (triceps) "appears headed to the disabled list."Colon said afterward that tightness in his triceps bothered him throughout Monday's start, in which he allowed nine runs. "You're always concerned with that," manager Mike Scioscia said. "If he doesn't make progress over the next couple of days, we'll consider different things. Extra rest could be the answer." If Colon is indeed placed on the DL, the Angels would likely either call up Joe Saunders from Triple-A or move Dustin Moseley into the rotation.

While he wasn't positive, John Smoltz thinks he'll be able to make his next start Sunday after suffering a mild shoulder strain Tuesday.Smoltz also aggravated his pinkie finger tonight. "Had they given me 10 minutes I would have been OK," Smoltz said. "But you don't get 10 minutes on the mound to work yourself back into shape. I really don't anticipate a problem." The Braves will know more after his next bullpen session.

Gary Sheffield stuck it to his hometown team when he launched two homers and drove in five runs Tuesday as Detroit laid a serious beating on the Rays 14-2.Sheffield's on a roll with three homers in the first two games of this series, and his 34th career multi-dinger game allowed him to break a tie with Dave Winfield and take over sole possession of 29th place all-time with 467 homers. He cranked a two-run jack to highlight a three-run first and then a three-run blast to key a five-run sixth. Sheffield also singled and, in 49 games, he's driven in 29 runs but, more impressively, has scored 44 runs.

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
