THT Daily: Traded Acesby Matthew CarruthJuly 19, 2008 Major League News for July 19Player News Yesterday’s Results Today’s Games Standings Top Minor League Performances You can always find the most recent THT Daily at http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/content/thtdaily/ Player NewsPlayer Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldThe Seattle Times is reporting that Erik Bedard likely "won't get on a mound until August." Bedard didn't throw over the All-Star break and won't attempt to play catch until Monday. "We're not looking at trying to pitch him before the 31st (of July)," manager Jim Riggleman said. "It's really all going to be based on how he feels. The 31st is kind of irrelevant when a guy's got a tender arm." Alfonso Soriano will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Iowa. Cubs GM Jim Hendry said Soriano will play two minor league games before the Cubs activate him. He said his hand is feeling "great." CC Sabathia went the distance and struck out 10 as the Brewers rolled over the Giants 10-1 on Friday. Aaron Rowand spoiled the shutout bid with a solo homer in the eighth, but Sabathia did notch his fifth complete game. He allowed four hits and walked none in the gem. He's 3-0 as a Brewer and 6-0 with four 10-strikeout games in his last eight starts overall. Glen Perkins went six innings combined with three relievers on a three-hit shutout of the Rangers on Friday. It's the first time this season the game's highest-scoring offense has been shut out. Perkins is 5-0 in his last six starts and 7-2 with a 3.84 ERA overall. There's nothing spectacular about his arsenal, but he's settling in as the third or fourth starter he was projected to become as a minor leaguer. One wonders if it would happened a year earlier had the Twins not tried jerking him back and forth between the pen and the rotation. Diamondbacks placed outfielder Justin Upton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 9, with a strained oblique. The move makes room for Tony Clark on the roster. Alex Romero, Chris Burke and Emilio Bonifacio will split time in the outfield until Upton recovers. Romero is getting the start tonight. Rangers activated third baseman Hank Blalock from 15-day disabled list. Blalock will return as the Rangers' everyday third baseman, sending Ramon Vazquez to the bench for now. It could be a short-term arrangement with Blalock a possibility to be moved before the July 31 deadline. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
