Lofton --> Cleveland - By all reports, Kenny Lofton is heading to Cleveland in exchange for minor leaguer Max Ramirez.

Teixeira Trade Watch - Mark Teixeira seems as good as gone, it's just a matter of time. Sources say that the Braves have offered catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Double-A lefthander Matt Harrison and Single-A shortstop Elvis Andrus, which would be more than enough of a haul for Tex. Reports say that Rangers GM Jon Daniels is just waiting to see if anyone will top that offer. I am not sure where I'd come down on this trade. Daniels has an extremely poor record in trades and Braves GM John Schuerholz has a tremendous one, especially when it comes to trading prospects.

Don't Worry, Be Happy - And now in descending order of playoff probability, we get four pseudo state-of-the-team posts. Leading off, the Brewers, who dropped a series to the Reds and have seen their division lead shrink to two games over the Cubs.

Cross Your Fingers - The Phillies have dealt with injuries to team leaders well before; call it the Ewing Theory if you're a Bill Simmons fan, or call it what David Cohen does, the Paradoxical Effect. Either way, Phillies fans are hoping whatever it is continues with Chase Utley headed to the shelf.

Crash Landing - The Mariners peaked at 15 games above .500 and just one game out of the wild card and two out of the division lead. Since then, they've lost seven in a row, five by a single run. Lucky for them, neither the Angels or Indians have made a move, though the Yankees certainly have, tightening up the wild card chase. Unlucky for them, the team's front office has the reaction time of an aircraft carrier and refuses to make obvious changes to a flawed but fixable team.

Not Likely - Finally we come to the Twins, who sit behind a number of teams on both fronts for a playoff spot and continue to employ only half a lineup. This is the season that the lack of front office activity during the offseason killed their playoff chances.

Brad Penny said the injury that caused him to leave his start Thursday was merely an abdominal cramp.
It certainly seemed like more than that after he came up lame running to first base. "I could've stayed in," Penny said. "I'm like, 'I'm fine.' They're like, 'No."' And the fans were like, scared, and the Rockies were like, excited. If Penny is finished talking like a teenage girl, he should be able to make his next start.

Miguel Tejada (wrist) went 2-for-2 with a homer and a walk Thursday in his second and final rehab game,
playing for Single-A Frederick tonight. He'll be activated Friday prior to the completion of the June 28 suspended game. He's expected to enter the contest right away and then start the regularly scheduled game against the Yankees.

Curt Schilling (shoulder) allowed two hits in five scoreless innings and struck out eight Thursday for Triple-A Pawtucket.
The Red Sox said before the game that Schilling would make a third rehab start on Tuesday. Schilling, however, is pitching like he's ready to rejoin the rotation. He's allowed four hits, walked none and struck out 14 in eight scoreless innings for Pawtucket. He threw 66 pitches, 44 of them strikes.

Instead of waiting until next Tuesday to pitch, Roy Oswalt (chest) will start Saturday against the Braves.
Oswalt will be working on seven days' rest, rather than 10. "The bullpen went good yesterday, so why not?" he said. "I hate missing that many days. Missing that many days gets you out of rhythm." Chris Sampson gets pushed back to Tuesday to make room in the rotation.

Josh Johnson was still dealing with elbow stiffness after his rehab start Wednesday, and the Marlins are sending him to see Dr. James Andrews.
If he needs surgery again, it would likely be Tommy John this time, putting him out for at least the first half of 2008. Johnson has made just four starts this year because of elbow problems.

Chase Utley suffered a broken hand when he was hit by a John Lannan pitch on Thursday and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
It's a huge blow to the Phillies' playoff chances. Utley was able to stay in after getting plunked in the fifth inning today, but X-rays after the game discovered the break. The Phillies traded Friday for White Sox second baseman Tadahito Iguchi. Greg Dobbs could also see time there against right-handers. Aaron Rowand could replace Utley in the No. 3 spot in the order, with Pat Burrell moving up to fifth behind Ryan Howard.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
