X-rays on Miguel Tejada's left wrist were negative, but the Orioles sent him to the hospital for a CT scan.
They want to make sure there are no hairline fractures. "I feel like everything is fine, but I am worried," Tejada said. "I was real scared when that ball was coming toward my face, so I put up my hands. I think I'll play tomorrow. If it's not broken, I'll play."

Chipper Jones injured his groin during Wednesday's loss and might not be ready to play Friday.
Jones left without commenting on the injury, but manager Bobby Cox said he was "hurting." Yunel Escobar might have to start at third base this weekend.

Sammy Sosa hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to become the fifth player in baseball history with 600 homers and help Texas whip the Cubs 7-3 on Wednesday.
The only way Sosa could have scripted this better would be if the game were at Wrigley, but going yard against his long-time team for number 600 must have been sweet. It was his only hit of the night, but Sosa also drove in a run when he was safe on an error. Frank Catalanotto followed Sosa's milestone blast with another dinger, one of two hits on the night as he enjoyed a much-needed strong game.

Curt Schilling will go on the disabled list with his right shoulder problem, the Red Sox announced.
That the Red Sox are rearranging their rotation, it looks like Jon Lester will be the choice to replace Schilling next Tuesday. The team already said that Josh Beckett will be moved up to Sunday and Julian Tavarez will go Monday.

J.J. Hardy left Wednesday's game after three innings because of tightness in his lower back.
Hardy missed Tuesday's game with what was described as left hip tightness. He never seemed to be 100 percent today, so this is probably a related problem. Craig Counsell replaced him. Hardy might get a few days off this time.

After playing catch Wednesday, Dontrelle Willis said that his arm feels better, though he's still not sure whether he'll make his scheduled start on Sunday.
"We'll see," Willis said. "I'm not sure if they're going to give me some (extra) time, yet. Regardless, I want to start three times before the break." Willis left Tuesday's game after one inning with forearm tightness. There's a good chance he'll make his next start on six or seven days' rest.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
